Brightlingsea Schools PTA

The PTA has been an integral part of the schools community for a number of years. In its time we have raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience and the school’s facilities.

However, the  PTA is about much more than simply fundraising, it is also an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.  It is fun too - just ask any of the Committee members.

All families are automatically members of the Association when their child joins our schools.

Like most PTAs, the majority of our funds are raised through the events that we run.  Some of our most recent events have been:

School discos, Easter and Summer Fayres, Film Nights for pupils and a curry night for parents.

We raise money in other ways too. Donations from parents are extremely important.  You can donate time, money, items for sale, raffle prizes and tombola's or offers of services and skills.

As our PTA is a registered charity, we are able to raise money through Gift Aid and company matched giving schemes as well.

In the 2011/2012 academic year we raised £6000, divided equally between the schools. The money we raised went towards a new phonics scheme at the Infant School and new interactive white boards at the Junior School.

There are lots of ways you can help and support your child through the PTA.

Offering to help before events or at other times during the year is so valuable.  It doesn’t matter if you can’t help on a regular basis, or even if you can not come into school.  There are always jobs that can be done from home if you have half an hour to spare e.g. wrapping gifts, preparing raffle tickets etc.  We really couldn’t achieve what we do without the behind the scenes help that we receive.

If you would like to be more involved you can become Committee Member or PTA volunteer.  Or you can simply support the AGM and give us your ideas for fundraising events. This is also the time to ask questions or voice your opinion.

You can help by letting us know if you have any contacts or skills we could use, everything is potentially valuable to us.

You can contact our PTA by email at

Or by leaving a message for the PTA at either of the school offices.

In the Junior school, funds raised in the past by the Schools' Association helped to pay for the canopy shown in these photographs. This is used as a waiting area for parents, a shelter for pupils during inclement weather and an outdoor classroom that can be used all year round. Previous donations have enabled us to purchase a child friendly greenhouse and set up a school allotment, not to mention our very popular school pet enclosures. More recently donations have allowed us to purchase beanbags for the reading areas in all classrooms and a new interactive whiteboards. Further photographs of projects funded by our Schools' Association can be found in our gallery.
